Global Antiparasitic Drugs Market to Exhibit Rapid Surge in Consumption in the COVID-19 Crisis

 


Antiparasitic drugs, such as anthelmintics, antiporozoals and some other agents, are used in the treatment of parasitic infectious diseases. According to WHO reports, 1.5 billion people worldwide are affected by parasitic disease in March 2020. These diseases include gastrointestinal disorders, anaemia, waste and cognitive and development delays in children and other infections. Of the 1.5 billion people affected by parasitic infectious diseases, 24 per cent of people worldwide are infected with soil-borne helminth infections. Some parasitic infections are life-threatening, whereas others cause discomfort in a healthy lifestyle. 

The global demand for the antiparasitic drugs market was estimated at US$7,227.9 million in 2019 and is projected to have a CAGR of 5.2 per cent over the forecast years (2020–2027).

On a geographic basis, the global demand for antiparasitic drugs market is segemented into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. 

Africa is projected to hold a dominant market place among regions due to a growing risk of malaria in the region. For example, according to the WHO, about 92% of malaria cases worldwide occur in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2017, the WHO also reported that of the five countries that accounted for almost half of all malaria cases globally, four countries came from Africa, including Nigeria (25%), the Democratic Republic of Congo (11 percent), Mozambique (5 percent) and Uganda (4 percent ).
